Looks like it's Christmas again soon.
I've been busy making Brabags the last few days
and will be making some cozy chicken hats too.
I'll be taking my homemade things and some quality carboot stuff
down to Artspace Lifespace's Island on the 12th to the 14th.

I did a little life demonstration of my transformable pissing trousers. The first one ever. It was quite nerv wrecking and very exciting. I am very glad I managed. Thanks for all the support and feedback.

Slowly Graduating

Thank you to everyone who came to the show at the Empire and Commonwealth Museum on Saturday the 26th of May.
It was great fun, doing the show and it all went well.

We are going up to London Graduate Fashion Week, in Battersea Park Arena, on Sunday 3rd of June.
U.W.E. will be running the show there on Tuesday the 5th, at 6.30PM, so you can come and watch my film again.
I will be putting it up on the web soon aswell. I let you know when that's done.

reclaiming picton street

last saturday, 14.10.06, i went to picton street in montpelier to sell all my second hand treasures, make space in the attic... and it was fantastic. i had so much fun all day long. the people were great, everyone was so friendly and happy. i'm going again.

day one

I arrived well at Spitalfields market on monday and was greeted whith a big uh and ah and how far did you have to come with all this lot on your back. Even though it was only a twenty minute ride this morning, I was looking forward to setting up my stall and than not having to worry about my luggage for the rest of the week.
So, I reported my arrival to someone, no idea who that was, no one seamed to bother to even introduce themselves or give us a nice welcome and a plan of the week. It was a bit irritating. Not the proffesional setup I expected after all the rigmoral of applying and beeing accepted, and "we support up and coming designers"-talk and big Swatch sitting on top off all of it.
Most of the monday I was busy setting up my stall, so I quickley forgot there was no one there to turn to if I needed something. You'd be surprised how much time it can take to set up a stall. By the time I had finished monday was allready nearly over again. Just aswell really that it was absolutely dead because of the freezing cold, where nobody wants to spend there lunchbrake shopping in the open.
Hence there wasn't any shoppers, I had some time to have a little look araound all the other stalls ,watch the fashion shows and acclimatice myself a lillte bit. Chating to my next door stall holder who had been there previously, reveiled that it's usually not really worse beeing here, and that she only came for this one day. That's enough she said. Which left me a bit disillusioned and not looking forward to the rest of the week at all.
From my other neighbour I then found out, that we had to take our stuff down for the night, to then put it up in the morning again. Because there was no security on sight. Well, that certainly gave me a shock. I had planed to leave all my stuff at the matket and than go to Enfield, which is about 20 miles north of Liverpool Street, to stay with family for the rest of the week.
Obviously, by the time I had packed up all my goods again, the market was deserted. all the officials where gone and there seemed no where save where I could leave my things. I had no choice but to put it all on my bike again and take a chance, cycling all the way through London with it. I asked the only remaining people who were there to keep an eye on my bags while I go and get my bike, loaded it up and off I went.
Fortunatelly I only had a short ride through the inner city, up to Victoria Park and from there my rout connected onto the canal which took me all the way up north to Enfield. A very nice cycling track, all along maintained very well, with a lot of ducks and geese for entertainment. I even saw my first tame-wild heron, standing there on the path. He couldn't care less, I just cycled straight past him, telling myself not to stop, to just keep going. The bags where groing heavier and heavier and I was getting more and more exhausted and slowly the darknes came creeping over me.
Finally, after tree hours of cycling like mad, at the brink of collapsing, I arrived at Janice's and Stephe's house. They were my Salvation Army. Seriously, I sat down on theire sofa and nearly fainted and just said yes please when they offered me drinks and food. Every little bit of my body hurt. So I sat, waiting while stephe cooked for me, ate like I hadn't eaten for a whole week, had a bath, decided to take the train into town in the morning and fell asleep.

alternative fashion week

Another week has passed already and it seams like the fashion week has been ages ago. Still, there's a lot to tell, so i shall start here.
Swatch alternative fashion week was a one week long event in Spitalfields market, just around the corner of Liverpool street station in London.Organised by Alternative Arts (an organisation that sits in London,Bethnal Green somewhere)and needless to say, sponsored by Swatch.
I was really getting quite excited about it, preparing myself for it 24 hours a day, making clothes, making bussines cards, making jewelery, making flyers, photographing my work, getting more and more nervous, working hard, not eating a lot, neglecting my friends... you get the picture. Wanting to take as much with me as possible, I was working on my stuff just until the moment I realized I had to load up my bicycle to go and catch the train. Just aswell that i had to stop there, because I wouldn't have been able to take any more with me. My saddlebags were full, i had them on my bikerack another full sportsbag and a little fishing chair on top of them and a massive, big rucksack, densely packed on my back. Oh, and a little handbag slung around my shoulders. I was glad when I got to the train on time and enjoyed the two hours it took from Bristol to London Paddington, not doing anything but staring out of the window and eating smelly cheese sandwiches.
The first obstacle, upon arriving in London, was that the lift that would have smoothly taken me down to the underground station was out of order. So i had to manuver my fully loaded bike down the steps. No problem though. Going down the steps easy. Once I was in the underground system I realised what a bad time wheelchair drivers must have in the London Underground network.
Up the steps and down the steps and up again. Wouldn't there have been those lovely strong man who helped me carrying my bike up, because they couldn't bare the sight of a young woman torturing herself like that, I propably would have given up right there, underneath Paddington train station. The first time in a while that I've been so thankfull men exsist.

After the ordeal on the tube it was only a short ride, over Lodon Bridge, down Borough Highstreet and I was at the St.Christophers Hostel, my safe haven for the night. The sauna though, the main reason why I booked in for the night, wasn't going and all I was left with was a kind of warm jakoozi. I had a little swim anyway. Just out of protest because the saune was switched off. After a few more preparations for the market and a little chat with my room mates I went to bed and slept the interrupted sleep of someone who shares theire bedroom with eleven other people.

just came back from swatch alternative fashionweek in london spitalfields market, last night.
so first of all thank you very much to my customers. the few of you who where there and bought something, you kept me sane and from getting depressed.
it was freezing cold this week and the event was much less attended than i had expected. i was dissapointed with the organisation and the lacking flow of information.
but it was a fun week after all. i met some lovely people, made a few useful contacts and put smiles on my customers faces, which was the best thing about the experience and made me happy. i will try and put some pictures of the week on and let you know more later.
